Ok, I know this post is kind of a loose fit, but I think we can all agree that this is indeed a sweet backpack.

u/DaMicRulah Sep 29 '22

I mean I don’t think the comeback was that clever but I agree with the sentiment.

I think people who say that people are cringe all the time like to say that largely because they aren’t comfortable with themselves, making them the ones who are cringe.

88

u/MinionsAndWineMum Sep 29 '22

I don't think it's even a comeback. But yeah, happy for backpack guy

u/RussIsTrash Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

Edit: everyone is coming in and donating him money so he can buy more Nintendo merch! Very cool

It’s just meta wording. People who can’t think for themselves call everything cringe.

2

u/PickleTickler37 Oct 09 '22

I just say it ironically but people who genuinely use cringe as an insult or comeback are cringe

10

u/LoveThieves Sep 29 '22

They probably have that strong self projection in their subconscious.

Also be aware of people that have "too many photos" of themselves irl. There's 2 images, the photo and the reflection of the glass (reflection) in a subtle way. So when they see a photo of other people, they might think it's cringe, they're thinking about how they would look as the image. some deeper psychological duplicity and narcissism in action.

7

u/TheEyeDontLie Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

One thing I look for when dating is how much of an Instagram is edited selfies, and how much is photos of shit they actually enjoy doing, or random stuff or whatever. Do the photos show food and friends at a restaurant or is that just a background for their face? I lived with a narcissistic and abusive partner for too long, don't want a repeat. You want someone who doesn't see themselves in everything. See how many "I/Me" statements are in their captions too. If everything is focused on them (eg. "I went hiking with my hot friends and I took this photo when I got to the top of the hill," vs "Look at us! We went hiking and smashed the hill. So much fun with my besties, we're so hot".

5

u/EnvironmentalSugar92 Sep 30 '22

As someone with narcissistic tendencies (and having grown up with poor social skills and being lonely a lot) I am taking notes. But I recently realized that this too can be seen as manipulation. In my case, I come of as manipulative when in reality I’m just trying socialize in only way I ever knew.

It’s an apt description for how teenagers turn their noses up at things they don’t understand/lack the capacity to appreciate. It isn’t “cringe”, you’re just undeveloped/uninteresting enough to feel insecure about something bringing others joy.

His name is Shawne Vinson on Facebook. Seems like a cool dude.

41

u/Stefano_Tudors Sep 29 '22

I just like bombed him a little, he seems so sweet and really passionate about nintendo

16

u/Cookie_Crush Sep 29 '22

Yeah same the man probably is responsible for like 80% of Nintendo merch sales

11

u/grayrains79 Sep 29 '22

he seems so sweet and really passionate about nintendo

Yet somehow what he's doing is cringe to some people. I don't get it. He's color coordinated and that color blue just looks soft and inviting. In the end? He's just showing off some merch that he enjoys.

I really don't get people anymore. Maybe I'm just old and tired but shouldn't we be building each other up instead of constantly trying to put each other down?

2

u/EmptyFrogCrimes Sep 30 '22

Their minds work like this: "This is nerd shit, nerds aren't cool. I'm doing him a favor reminding him that he isn't cool, plus all the people will be thanking me for making him stop posting this nerd garbage nobody wants to see."

Social media is their mind's potty palace. They dump every negative thought and feeling within them into a hate-fueld turd to discharge at someone who's not feeling all that but "deserves it" for whatever reason.

Shawne came into the apple store (Sacramento) almost every day when I worked there. He would post up on one of the iMac's in a corner and just watch Bleach for a few hours. He always rocked the sweetest Nintendo merch and was genuinely one of the sweetest people that ever came in that store. Wild to see this reddit post, I still think about him once in a while all these years later.

18

u/sirwalshy Sep 29 '22

18

u/schattenteufel Sep 29 '22

People who call everything “cringe” are the fucking worst. Cringe is a verb. Not an adjective.

3

u/coolerbrown Sep 29 '22

Words change with time. For example, "disrespect" didn't start as a verb but I'm sure we've all used it as one.

All that said, the loser who called the backpack cringe wrote it in a way that references Star Wars which is just as "cringe" — if not more so — than Nintendo.

1

u/Randomuserguyfren Sep 29 '22

It's used as a short term for cringeworthy nowadays so I don't see the issue

18

u/Jonestown_Juice Sep 29 '22

"Cringe" is the new "awkward" I guess- a word said to demean people who are just expressing their opinions or likes. It's immature and it's like calling someone a "nerd" or whatever.

14

u/DreddPirateBob808 Sep 29 '22

Using 'cringe' has always been a sign of an utter twat.

11

u/BurmecianDancer Sep 29 '22

The word "cringe" by itself is fine. Pretending that "cringe" is an adjective is the problem.

u/dishrag Sep 29 '22

38

u/SophieSix9 Sep 29 '22

The whole “cringe” thing on the internet is usually just an an excuse to shit on people who are weird or lack social skills. Its why I don’t even go into tik tok comment sections anymore.

19

u/ironwolf6464 Sep 29 '22

It is funny, because most of the "cringe" people I know are more happy and secure then those who crap on them.

7

u/Schenkspeare Sep 29 '22

Misery loves company

2

u/thatbromatt Sep 29 '22

Projection is a bitch

2

u/dr_shark Sep 29 '22

I’ve actually been finding people are on an upswing for positivity in the comment sections I’ve been dealing with. Really passing the vibe check and giving “gates open come on in” type shit.

2

u/Proddx Sep 29 '22

Anytime anyone even uses the word “cringe”, I feel sorry for them. They care too much about what other people think and haven’t yet graduated to zen mode.

60

u/ZonyIsFat Sep 29 '22

21

u/Bentendo24 Sep 29 '22

wheres the clever comeback? am i just stupid and missing it?

9

u/GisellaRanx Sep 29 '22

Literally all this was was a guy using 'cringe' to describe what they think of the guy because he's happy being a geek/nerd who happens to be black.

As someone who has dealt with this kind of bs from my own community since I was a teenager, this is such a norm situation to occur.

Granted I know its old and no where near the original posting, but I'm glad for the person that replied.

3

u/Reddituser183 Sep 29 '22

I’ve recently come to that same conclusion myself that if one cringes at everything it’s a sign that they are emotionally immature.

3

u/gg43teehee Sep 29 '22

Bro was just living life enjoying Nintendo. Let the man be

3

u/RixirF Sep 29 '22

I congratulated him on his awesome backpack and on getting something nice for himself.

I felt good that day and I hope he feels even better with his backpack.

3

u/AsukaBunnyxO Sep 29 '22

Let people be happy... Fuck

3

u/DyerRevenge Sep 29 '22

i hate when people are so needlessly hurtful to others. like dude fuck off let him be happy youre genuinely a terrible person for tearing his happiness down.

Great backpack guy <3 :)

3

u/Bleezze Sep 29 '22

I see people calling anything cringe nowadays. I rarely ever cringe at something. To me cringe is real second hand embarrassment, which I don't feel often, and I am guessing most of the time people claim cringe they don't actually cringe, they are just making fun of people, low key bullying them

3

u/BigShitZonker Sep 29 '22

How many comments do we need saying “this isn’t even clever”, anybody else need to see it come from themselves because the other 50 comments aren’t enough?

1

u/Czar_Petrovich Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

People think everyone wants so badly to hear their hot take about something that they don't even bother reading the comments to see that 15 people have already said it.
