After the national anthem neither of them went back to the dugout in a patriotic standoff and it delayed the game by like, two seconds and they got ejected.

I’m actually shocked the MLB posted a clip where their umpires made fools of themselves and ejected players for this.

179

u/AxSz346 New York Yankees Sep 25 '22

The video doesn't make it obvious there were ejections and the tweet doesn't reference it either, that's probably why. I still wouldn't be surprised if they took it down though.

71

u/Cayfish Toronto Blue Jays Sep 25 '22

When the umpire made that motion with his hand suggesting “get out” that’s where I figured it was a ejection. I suppose not every MLB fan would interpret it like that though.

55

u/AxSz346 New York Yankees Sep 25 '22

Yeah in hindsight he's definitely tossing them there, but if I didn't know better I would probably have assumed he was just gesturing for them to cut it out rather than actually ejecting them based on the lighthearted tone of the tweet and the announcers.

They didn’t make a fool of themselves tbh. It’s funny but it also delayed the start of the game, Crawford was stepping up when they got ejected. At some point someones gotta step in and the umps had to in this case.

8

u/Cayfish Toronto Blue Jays Sep 25 '22

Maybe a better way to describe it is that it’s strange how MLB would post a video where you can see umpires, the officials of MLB, yelling and visibly upset at players having a little fun, even though it is disruptive to the game. Just gotta think that wouldn’t be great to see for PR reasons or new fans.

Yea that makes sense for me actually. They do look a little outta proportion here, should have just had the 1st and 3rd base ump go over and do it calmly instead of yelling, you’re right there. Not a great look for the “fun of the game” spiel

-1

u/ManicNuclearMoose Sep 26 '22

Makes fools of the players.

There's a point where being funny becomes childish.

-2

u/Cayfish Toronto Blue Jays Sep 26 '22

They’re playing a children’s game that we, the fans, watch for entertainment. This isn’t some formal business meeting that must start on time or else.

Umpires could’ve addressed this far better. Standoffs have happened before and umpires put an end to them without having to eject anyone.

6

u/ManicNuclearMoose Sep 26 '22

This isn’t some formal business meeting that must start on time or else.

You sure about that?

MLB is a business and two players refusing to leave the field so a business can start doing what thousands in attendance have paid to see....

On one hand, Weaver is an available reliever on a day where the Royals had to demote a reliever to bring up Castillo and having an available reliever could be helpful today.

On the other hand, Weaver sucks.

218

u/WhiteChocolate12 Seattle Mariners Sep 25 '22

You're saying this is a 4D chess move by the Royals to make one of their worst relievers unavailable in the rubber match of the series. Incredibly smart move by management. Gotta tip your cap to that.

Ump made several reasonable requests, players ignored them. I hate blue as much as anyone but you can’t just let people do whatever they want lol

are you nuts lol. They couldn't get the two off the field. What are you suggesting happens?

Like this sentence makes no sense

It’s like umps want to make baseball less watchable

There was no baseball happening, the players were preventing it!

Some the ejections in the past week have been incredibly stupid, preventable and unnecessary on the umpire’s part.

You guys disagree? Look at Patrick Wisdom’s ejection. He was mad at himself but was ejected because the umpire thought he was arguing with him.

The funniest ejection since Tim Duncan got ejected for laughing on the bench.

There’s a natural point where the players have to leave the field, and it’s when the first pitch is delivered. Up until then, the ump can just ignore them. When the first pitch is delivered, and they are still on the field, toss em.

wtf, you weirdos. the aren't being more "American" by doing this. They're just playing a childish game, like a staring contest, that would be fine in another context, but isn't ok here. They deserved to be ejected and the umpire gave them fair warning.

I saw this tweet before the video, and the umps being lame enough to eject someone for that is not what I expected. I thought it would've been like a pregame fight.

The umpires warned them both first "Hey dumbassses, we are going to play baseball here, move." and then the players didn't move and the umpires ejected them. What did you expect was going to happen?

Some may see this as disrespecting the flag but I see two god damn patriots expressing their love for their country

The umpires just hate America
