I’m in Texas and I have no idea wtf anybody here is talking about. We just went from DoubleHot Summer to LessThanSingleHot Summer. So, no more 110 degree days, but now we luckily haven’t broken a hundred in a few weeks. It was 97 yesterday. Fall don’t hit until we stop hitting 90.

So summer didn’t leave like it owed someone money…it’s just shackin up with Texas before it moves on.

u/scarlettsarcasm Sep 25 '22

Yeah I'm in Arkansas and it's 91 outside and I thought it felt nice lol

Just moved to Houston from Boston. Does fall exist in Texas I’m not even sure if you guys ever heard of winter.

86

u/chrisrayn Sep 25 '22

I’ll answer you by saying this: when we get snow, the entire state basically shuts down and there is no school for the duration of the snow on the ground.

26

u/Deepspacedreams Sep 25 '22

Being an adult sucks. No snow days for I.

Let me warn you: Fall does not exist. Houstonians will SAY it does, but it's just the temperature going down for 2 weeks, quickly chased by heavy gray clouds for the rest of "winter." There's nothing "fall" about it. But we Houstonians like to entertain ourselves with the notion of seasons but really, we're just gaslighting each other so we don't have to think about the fact that we just endured hellfire.

However, you'll know it's "winter" when people start wearing down coats when it hits <75F.

u/OneRaisedEyebrow BHM Donor Sep 26 '22

No. We don’t believe in winter here. Only summer, peak hurricane season, second summer, cooler summer, spring break and pre-summer. We’re currently in second summer.

I don’t miss the snow or the cold, but August is brutal here. Great month to take a vacation or 4 up north if you can. Come back after peak hurricane season.

Wish Texas got the memo 😩

128

u/IttyBittyKittyFarts Sep 25 '22

Texas never does what the fuck it's supposed to do. It's 93° and damn near October.

44

u/KoreKhthonia Sep 25 '22

Is that atypical?

I'm new to east-central Texas, originally from northwest Florida. Back home, it's always been pretty typical for the heat to persist pretty well into September. (Though tbh, I think that due to climate change factors, the "cold snaps" period of schizophrenic fall weather starts later in the autumn than it used to.)

93F sucks, but I mean, it was getting up to like 107 most days back in July, so by comparison this is somewhat better.

36

u/UsualCorgi Sep 25 '22

It's normal but it's just irritating. While I am glad we are done with weeks of 100+ temps, I am still envious of people claiming fall has arrived for them

Was just saying the same thing but about Arizona, really wish someone would have told the weather here. Ugh. It's going to be over 100° all week. That being said, the storms, earthquakes and stuff around the world keep happening in pairs, it's nuts.

13

u/KoreKhthonia Sep 25 '22

Jesus. I've only really lived in hot climates (formerly NW FL, currently east-central TX), but over 100 in late September still sounds crazy to me. Is that typical in your climate, or is this just a year with a crazy heat wave?

Even here in TX, it's gone from a high of 105-109F most days back in July, to highs usually in the low to mid '90s. (Which is still hot af, tbh, but by comparison, it feels quite a bit cooler.)

13

u/TMNTiff Sep 25 '22

Sadly, this is pretty typical, there have been many years where Phoenix was hotter than death valley in July, consistently over 112 to 115 this year for the peak of the summer. Hope it will actually start to cool off mid-October, sometimes we don't actually get cool weather till late November. I cannot wait to move out of this desert.

One of the many repercussions of climate change will be a more dramatic shift from Summer to Winter. This means more extreme weather during both and less time for Spring/Autumn. You've all been warned.
