Your comment and this post both promote ignorance and consumerism which is an extreme embarrassment, especially when compared to the fine culture of St. John’s, Newfoundland, so I have downvoted and hope that you can learn from this. Have a nice day.

72

u/girthytacos Aug 13 '22

Wtf lol

65

u/Ajoneseyy21 Aug 13 '22

Seriously tho. I feel like I’m missing something. Why’d they mention St. Johns Newfoundland? Lmfao

86

u/RunningSouthOnLSD Aug 13 '22

One of the 350 guys who live out there must have somehow gotten internet access and wanted to let the world know that people live on the east coast

17

u/MIDICANCER Aug 13 '22

Dude is ripping off another dude who has become a type of poster here. Basically at some point this guy decided he wanted to be recognized for a funny schtick and decided that making every comment come back to St. John’s Newfoundland would be the golden ticket to karma heaven and Reddit notoriety.

36

u/Skill3rwhale Aug 13 '22

In some sense, maybe?

I mean I always budget, not every single dollar, but to $100+ spare to use for entertainment. Not saying this is monthly budget, but I always try to keep at least $100 ready and available for entertainment. It lets me hit up sales when they pop, events that come to town, friend gathering invites, etc. and I don't care about it beyond the knowledge that either money is there, or I just spent it and it's time to save again.

7

u/slurple_purple Aug 13 '22

Such a good idea! Guilt free spending money

Can I come to St. John's, Newfoundland? Would I be welcomed?

15

u/referralcrosskill Aug 13 '22

To visit? Yes you'll be welcomed. To live there? well you're not from there so you'll never really fit in nor be accepted however your house won't be burnt down

13

u/WalkinSteveHawkin Aug 13 '22

your house won’t be burnt down

We’re polite like that in Newfoundland

3

u/Ricebandit469 Aug 13 '22

6

u/Glycerinder Aug 13 '22

Buncha weirdos over there. Only 30 minutes ahead of us time wise. Not even a full time zone, it’s half assed. I think it’s time for some screech.

This comment is perfection. Someone mint this on an NFT

0

u/NerdyTimesOrWhatever Aug 13 '22

This comment makes me wish I had more money to spend on small plastic bags to choke seagulls with. Nothin in em. No reason to. Just malice from the angry and hateful vibe of Georgetown, USA.

See my comment. Totally agree with you. Here’s an upvote.

u/PerfectlySplendid Aug 13 '22

As a gambling addict, I had times where I just wouldn’t check it. Just keep trying to take out money until it tells me no.

Then max out the cards until it tells me no. Then take out loans until the banks tell me no. Then manipulate family and loved ones until they finally tell me no.

Hoping one day I can tell myself no.

9

u/ThatOneGuy4321 Aug 13 '22

Damn. I hope so too bro

8

u/Bargin10 Aug 13 '22

Honestly brother, realization is one of the first steps. Just becoming aware. Aware of your habit, aware of how it effects you, and awareness of what you truly want to do in regards to it. Try to catch that realization, that moment when you make a decision that could effect you negatively or not based on it. Remember what YOU want and try to make a habit of catching that sudden awareness before going a route. Addiction is hard my man. In a sense it's usually a habit to bring a bit of joy in our lives. The best way I've found for me personally to fight my addictions is by catching that awareness before I make a decision that could topple me back into the addiction and making a habit of it. And picking up a new habit in it's place, preferably a healthy alternative that you honestly enjoy. I've always been interested in powerlifting and after I had enough of my own demons taking control of my life for nigh a decade, I decided to pursue it. It's the place I go to now when I feel that craving and need to focus my mind elsewhere. It's a habit for me now to catch those moments of weakness, but God the beginning was difficult. I wish you the best my man, just always remember what you want to pursue in life and be true to yourself on what may be stopping you from achieving it.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '22

And this is the reason I hate every celebrity that accepts gambling sponsorships and flaunts their winnings with their fake cash given to them by the company. Especially those who know they’ve got younger audiences. It’s greed. They’ve got more than enough cash and yet decide to promote gambling in a fake environment to children and young adults. I’m talking about Adin Ross & Drake (both with younger audiences). But I know that sports like the UFC are now accepting these sponsorships and most livestreamers are too such as xQc, who has a brain dead audience of children and adults.

2

u/Barry9988 Aug 13 '22

Lmao are you guys me

2

u/vhexs Aug 13 '22

I just spent £200 on clothes last week. This meme speaks to me like no other.

3

u/ur_uncles_porn_stash Aug 14 '22

Just spent 600$ on clothes. Ive never spent this much in my life and im terrified to check my account

2

u/vhexs Aug 14 '22

Fuck dude that's so much money

But the way I look at it is - how often do you buy clothes? That £600 spread over 6-12 months is a lot easier to swallow.

3

u/ur_uncles_porn_stash Aug 14 '22

I almost never buy clothes so its like 600 for the whole year

1

u/vhexs Aug 14 '22

So 50 a month. Not bad!

173

u/JackMarstonRDR aight imma head out Aug 13 '22

I really just can't let myself have fun lol. It doesn't matter how much I save to do fun stuff, I just have the impending doom that I'll need that money for an emergency later.

83

u/Caesar_Passing Aug 13 '22

I flip flop between this mentality, and the meme- like some kind of fiscal bipolar, lol.

18

u/ripleyclone8 Aug 13 '22

I do that too, but it’s probably because of my actual bipolar. lol.

-10

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox Aug 13 '22

pretty sure that's not what bipolar is, people have episodes like twice a year, not vacillating back and forth constantly. If it happens once every 3 months then it's considered rapid cycling

9

u/duckonar0ll Aug 13 '22

thank you mister certified psychologist

6

u/ripleyclone8 Aug 13 '22

Pretty sure you’re not my psychiatrist, but okay. haha.

4

u/RainbowRaider Aug 13 '22

There is bipolar type 1, type 2, cyclothymia disorder and a few other sprinklings of differentiations using the term “xx features”

1

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox Aug 13 '22

Sure, none of them describe hour by hour mood changes. Everyone thinks bipolar means quirky mood swings that happen constantly because they see that sentiment tacked on to "bipolar" so often. Next they'll be saying a change of mood is because they have multiple personalities.

3

u/RainbowRaider Aug 13 '22

From the viewpoint of someone with bipolar:

you are getting offended at another person with bipolar for making a self-deprecating joke.

I understand where you are coming from concerning “trend fakers” (they really piss me off too, and I used to work with them as my clientele) but it isn’t really relevant here. I am not saying this as if you are in the wrong, I do sincerely believe you are coming from the view of someone who is also very tired of annoying pick-me assholes and you’ve just gotten a bit jaded over time (Which most people would!!)

1

u/ripleyclone8 Aug 13 '22

No one ever talked about hour by hour mood changes, though. So you got butthurt over nothing. Shit, I wish I wasn’t bipolar. My psychiatrist, meds, and therapist are all expensive as fuck.

1

u/dumbstrawberry Aug 21 '22

Actually ultradian cycling is a thing. That's the term for under 24hrs.

2

u/Chromattix Aug 13 '22

For me it's have enough for an emergency but make sure you buy stuff you want once there's "enough" since unless it's gonna be invested in something it's doing no good sitting there depreciating in value and if you ever get scammed (happening a lot lately, they're getting good at this shit) you at least aren't going to lose it all if some of it is in the form of shit you wanted.

9

u/Occulense Aug 13 '22

That’s what the emergency fund is for.

How much do you actually spend every month? Multiply that by 3 and keep that in a savings account.

3

u/lemaymayguy Aug 13 '22

Halfway through a vacation I start getting greedy and penny pinching

2

u/KeepDi9gin Aug 13 '22

It's so much worse when you own a house.

1

u/Spazzin Aug 13 '22

Shit and here I am wishing I had somebody or something to spend money on lol, sucks trying to go to fairs and festivals alone

1

u/ChubbyLilPanda Aug 13 '22

It’s better than using all of it!

Try setting goals for yourself where if you save x money from a category, treat yourself. If I am able to keep food costs under 200 dollars for the month, I’ll eat out

1

u/KaySquay Aug 13 '22

There's a lot of cheap options for fun, depending on what you want to do

Library is a great option, mine even gets the newest video games

1

u/Snaccbacc Aug 13 '22

That’s actually not a bad attitude to have lol. I just sort of tell myself “Screw it, it’s summer have fun! Worry about the money later” and then when I check my account finally I’m in tears 😭

1

u/aloha_XD Aug 13 '22

You could setup a emergency fund of 3-6 months of living expenses. After that, invest a set amount every month automatically (index fund). All the money left is money you can spend without worrying at all.

u/deltacharmander Aug 13 '22 Narwhal Salute

58

You don't need to spend a ton of money over the weekend when you can spend tons of money on a dog once

7

u/Dalferious Aug 13 '22

You’re going to be spending a lot over that dog’s lifetime unless you feed them shitty kibble and don’t provide basic care and needs for the dog. The expenses don’t stop at the purchase of a dog

20

u/Colds_the_uchiha Aug 13 '22

Got a breakfast taco with a Mexican Coke, bought an engagement ring but not proposing until December but just bought it to have it ready, bought myself a “clean culture” banner for my car, took my gf to Texas Roadhouse, got Starbucks, and bought myself a new hat for work. I get paid next Friday, money comes and goes! I deserved today after having a long week at work and hurting my back and also enjoying my birthday weekend! Feeling like squid ward at work, feeling like Garfield on Mondays and feeling like Mr Krabs on Fridays!

8

u/fijce773 Aug 13 '22

I’ve lived this for years. Now I have enough I don’t have to for a comfortable reason.

Not checking my balance though has been one of the worst choices. Face it. Accept it. Make a choice how to change it. Always fucked me when I did this

7

u/Crispy_Yt1 Aug 13 '22

All fun and games until you get that credit card bill. Then all that happiness is flushed down the toilet.

1

u/XxGeisterhosexX Aug 13 '22

I must confess that I am timing to stack up money to buy a house or a flat maybe sometime but reset up feeling really stressed when I spend money... I got tickets for London games this year and it all like feel away for Tix, hotel and stuff... Now I am a little scared but I have the feeling that even the full stack of money wouldnt buy me a house or flat anyway near soon.... I truly think it will never happen so what do I stacking money for?

You bastard. You made me check my bank account

1

u/Myrothrenous Aug 13 '22

Oh man. I really hate the feeling of being behind financially, and knowing you're going to work but NONE of the money is yours to keep, not even for food, because rent/bills have to be paid to have a place to live.

It's getting really tiring, I'm thankful I'm starting to work toward a degree. Unless you have a very specific skillset, a degree is required to get ahead in today's society. Hope everyone's day is going awesome, life's difficult sometimes!

Some banks have an app that let's you keep the same balance on your account, regardless of your spendings. It's just an app. I don't know how it works though. I'm no expert.

1

u/Barbados_slim12 Aug 13 '22
